Community and Social Activist Lennox Smith says that the migration of Carnival from East Port of Spain to the West of the city is a serious indictment of the failure of East Port of Spain Communities to ensure the economic sustainability. In a statement, Mr. Smith says the poor intellectual property law knowledge, love for the culture and the emergences of an entrepreneurial class have collectively conspired to have East Port of Spain evolve in an industry created by forefathers of the Community.

Officers attached to the POS Homicide Bureau are continuing investigations into this country’s latest murder. Reports say that shortly after 5 o’clock yesterday afternoon, residents of Straker village, Laventille, heard several loud explosions. Upon checking they discovered the lifeless body of a man of African Decent, lying in the track. The corpse is yet to be identified.

Murder accused Carlos Charles has been set free. Justice Anthony Carmona yesterday freed Mr. Charles of the 2004 murder of 17 year old Elias Thomas. However the matter is not over. Justice Carmona has called for the exhibits tested at the Forensic Science Centre to be preserved for the matter to be revisited. The Judge also said the relevant Authorities must investigate the report of illegal activities in the cemetery where young Elias was killed.

Police are searching for suspects in connection with the fatal shooting of 19 year old Darryl Edwards. Residents reportedly discovered Mr. Edwards’ corpse around 7am yesterday at Scorpion Alley in Carenage. Police say Mr. Edwards was a suspect in several murders and shootings in the area. Port of Spain Homicide Bureau is investigating.

Appeal Court Judge Ivor Archie has been sworn in as Chief Justice. At 9:30 this morning, newly appointed Chief justice took the oath of office in a ceremony at the President’s House, St, Anns. Mr. Archie is this country’s youngest Chief Justice. Meanwhile… Justice Archie’s appointment has been viewed by the Opposition United National Congress Alliance as suspicious. Chief Whip Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj yesterday said there was no transparency in how President George Maxwell Richards made the appointment.
